Grant McPherson Plant Director JLR Castle Bromwich
Continuous Improvement is a way of life for Grant McPherson, the man in charge at Jaguar Land Rover’s Castle Bromwich factory. McPherson spent over 20 years at Honda of the UK Manufacturing Ltd where he honed his lean thinking as engine division manager in one of the world’s leading engine manufacturing plants. McPherson went onto become manufacturing director at the Japanese car giant. He joined JLR three months ago and is looking to inspire over 2,000 workers to buy into his CI vision.
Mark Bown Customer Improvement Manager Cummins
Mark Bown has steered CI journeys from Sao Paolo to South Carolina. A Six Sigma Black belt and business process improvement analyst, Bown directs improvements at Cummins factories worldwide. Bown joined the power giant in 2004 while studying for a Manufacturing & Lean Management degree from Cranfield University. He developed manufacturing excellence in high value product assembly and fabrication plants in his first post as continuous improvement manager before being promoted to his current role two years ago.
Barry Tumelty Head of Continuous Improvement Gestamp
Barry Tumelty has helped turn around fortunes at tier one automotive supplier Gestamp’s Washington site. Under Tumelty’s CI blueprint the factory has gone from making a loss to a profit in just a few years. Tumelty spent 10 years working in the automotive industries with Japanese or Spanish companies honing his lean skills. He devised a short, medium and long term plan for the introduction of Lean manufacturing for Gestamp which has seen the launch of 5S, standardization, visual management, TPM & kaizen at the company. Gestamp has also achieved ISO 14001 environmental management and ISO TS16949 duality management benchmarks.
Tyrone White Manufacturing Manager Talley Group
Tyrone White is about to turn his lean experience to Eaton Group where he will take up a new post this autumn. He is currently head of purchasing, manufacturing and logistics with the Talley Group supplying an international market, with over 50% of products exported to the dynamic pressure area care, negative pressure wound therapy and broad spectrum anti microbial sanitizing markets.
Tyrone has been working within the manufacturing industry for over 20 years and involved with lean manufacturing for most of it, with experience in a range of industries from electrochemical, IT and medical. Tyrone has a passion for manufacturing excellence and total dedication to improving the UK’s position as a world leader in innovation and design.
Professor Raj Roy Head of Manufacturing Department at Cranfield University and Director of the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Through-life Engineering Services
Professor Roy heads up the new EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing and regularly leads business improvement research with leading manufacturers. Through the EPSRC, Professor Roy will work with manufacturers including Rolls Royce, Bombardier and BAE Systems to investigate how through life engineering can deliver high value products with low life cycle costs. Five initial projects have been announced by the centre including reduction of ‘no fault found’ situations through system design and self-healing technologies for electronic and mechanical components and subsystems.
